Salto: France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 could kill Netflix’s competitor within a few days

Salto, the French Netflix, could live its last days. Faced with the bitter failure of the platform, it is likely that France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 will soon decide to end the service.

According to our colleagues from Le Monde, while Salto recently celebrated its second anniversary, the French Netflix competitor could well be counting its days. Indeed, the various shareholders of the platform, i.e. France Télévisions, TF1 and M6 should meet at the end of the month to decide on the future of the platform.

France Télévisions is quite skeptical about the survival of the service, since it had already hinted that it would leave its shares to TF1 and M6 if the merger was approved. Unfortunately for her, TF1 and M6. Unfortunately, the marriage has recently been definitively abandoned, and France Télévisions must therefore still take care of Salto’s affairs.

Salto could disappear in a few days

Since its launch, Salto does not really succeed in convincing French customers, which are more attracted by American competition. At the beginning of the year, Salto had less than a million subscribers, which already reflected the bitter failure of the platform. The service then joined the Prime Video catalog, but was not free. You still had to pay 6.99 euros per month to access the content.

Salto was also recently forced to raise prices, since it increases its basic offer from 6.99 euros to 7.99 euros for three screens, and the annual subscription has climbed to 69.99 euros. Not sure that this helps the platform to convince new subscribers, but it must cover its costs at all costs.

Delphine Ernotte, president of France Télévisions, had explained to be looking for 45 million euros to complete its group’s 2023 budget, and this is exactly the sum that France Télévisions was supposed to obtain from Salto in the event of a marriage between TF1 and M6. The group always seems to want to dissociate itself from the project, which currently seems to be floundering. Anyway, we will obviously keep you informed of the decision of the shareholders within the next few days.
