Sylvester Stallone really doesn’t look like a superhero in “Samaritan”.

Better late than never: Thanks to “Samaritan”, Sylvester Stallone is now becoming a superhero. What distinguishes the 76-year-old savior of the law?

It took 76 years before action hero Sylvester Stallone (76) was also allowed to become a superhero. However, it has not yet been enough for the screen, Sly will migrate directly to the Amazon Prime Video streaming service as “Samaritan” on August 26th. What is the film about and with which other superheroes can the old Samaritan, who is tired but not very mellow when fighting evil, be compared?

Back from the dead – that’s what it’s all about

“Samaritan” tells the story of 13-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon Walton, 16). The boy wants to get to the bottom of his old neighbor Joe Smith’s secret. And indeed: The garbage man turns out to be a former superhero Samaritan, who was believed dead, but who has long since retired and initially seems to have no interest in fighting for good again. But then he forces himself into his hero suit again.

“Unbreakable” meets “Logan” and a dash of “Hancock”

The plot already suggests that the audience in “Samaritan” will also be dealing with a valiant beyond the Marvel recipe. The silent older gentleman next door who turns out to be a superhero – that’s more reminiscent of Bruce Willis (67) in “Unbreakable” than “Iron Man”. Meanwhile, the Samaritan’s interaction with young Sam is reminiscent of Hugh Jackman’s (53) memorable farewell as Wolverine in “Logan,” in which he too played a battle-torn, disillusioned fighter for good.

The balance of power is also reminiscent of the X-Man: Broken bones of the “Samaritan” heal in no time at all, bullets don’t seem to be able to harm him either and cars weighing tons are knocked over like dominoes. However, “Samaritan” is not quite as dark or violent as “Logan”. If Wolverine’s farewell came without a shred of humor, “Samaritan” exudes the odd “Hancock” vibe. In the 2008 film, Will Smith (53) embodied the homeless titular anti-hero and handed out even juicier cuffs than at this year’s Oscars.

Good is measured by evil

Actor Pilou Asbæk (40) is there as Sylvester Stallone’s diabolical opponent. The Dane already proved in the series “Game of Thrones” as Euron Greyjoy to be a worthy antagonist that one loves to hate.
