Same defects as in the USA
Tesla is also recalling many cars in China
Major quality defects force Tesla to carry out two product recalls within a few hours. First, the electric car manufacturer has to bring half a million vehicles in the USA to the workshops for inspection, now 55,000 Chinese customers are affected. The problems are the same in both cases.
Tesla is recalling around 55,000 vehicles in China due to deficiencies that may pose a risk to safety. As can be seen from an online statement by the Chinese market surveillance authority, almost 20,000 “Model S” cars and more than 35,000 “Model 3” cars are affected.
According to reports, there are two different security risks: In “Model 3” from the US electric car manufacturer, defects around the rear-view camera were found. This could be damaged by opening and closing the trunk lid and ultimately fail. With the “Model S” there is a risk that the bonnet will open unexpectedly if a locking mechanism is released. This could obstruct the driver’s view.
Tesla had previously recalled almost half a million vehicles in the United States for the same reasons. It has not yet been possible to clarify whether the defects and a possible recall will also affect vehicles in Germany. The responsible Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) in Flensburg could not be reached for a comment at first.
Tesla generates around a fifth of its sales in China, the world’s largest market for electric cars. The group founded by Elon Musk has been operating a factory in Shanghai with several thousand employees since 2019.
