Three companies are vying for supremacy in the semiconductor segment and Samsung isn’t going to be left behind.

A year 2025 which could well be pivotal in our small world of tech since after the Intel conference and the rumors around the next generation of NVIDIA GPUs – the replacement for Ada Lovelace would arrive in 2025 – it is therefore Samsung who wants to score points by evoking an important milestone on the horizon of 2025.

At the Samsung Foundry Forum in San Jose, California, Dr. Siyoung Choi, President and Head of Foundry Business, Samsung Electronics, said, ” mass production of chips via the 2 nm process will take place as early as 2025 “.

1.4 nm from 2027

In this case, it is for Samsung to confirm a roadmap already mentioned last fall when the company announced that it was aiming for 2 nm ” by 2025 “. The objective therefore remains unchanged for Samsung, which has however clarified things a little.

Indeed, 2025 will be a first step with the production of 2 nm processors for smartphones and tablets. Of course, Samsung products will be among the first to benefit from this innovation in the same way as Qualcomm chips. Subsequently, the South Korean company aims to produce 2 nm components for high-performance computing (HPC) as early as 2026, and a year later (2027) for the automotive market.

Samsung also pointed out that in 2027 it should be able to mass-produce chips using the 1.4nm process. Progress which implies a reorganization of the company with, in particular, the multiplication by 7.3 of the capacity of its clean rooms, in 2027 compared to 2021. This will result in an extension of its Pyeongtaek plant, but also in the commissioning of the plant under construction in Taylor, Texas.
