Samsung announces even more pissed off LPDDR5X RAM

Samsung has announced that its LPDDR5X memory is now capable of reaching the 8.5 Gb/s threshold on a Snapdragon mobile platform. Enough to open a window on ever more breathtaking performance for the next high-end smartphones from the group and its partners.

New speed record for Samsung’s RAM. With its LPDDR5X DRAM, the Korean giant now manages to reach a speed of 8.5 Gb / s, against 7.5 Gb / s during tests previously conducted in March. For comparison, the previous LPDDR5 standard was limited to already generous speeds of 6.4 Gb / s.

This significant increase will benefit both future high-end smartphones from Samsung and its industrial partners, as well as laptops, tablets, servers and other data centers. The automotive sector could also take advantage of this novelty to improve the responsiveness of on-board systems, explains Samsung in a press release published a few days ago. A speed necessary to process ever more efficiently the increasing amount of data managed by the most modern vehicles, especially in the context of partially or totally autonomous driving.

RAM to do everything, always faster and more efficient

Samsung further explains that its LPDDR5 memory is increasingly used in the portable PC sector. The latter makes it possible to combine solid performance with reduced consumption. It is also relevant in the field of AI, underlines the Korean giant, very proud of its latest progress.

If in its press release the firm remains relatively discreet about its work, it nevertheless indicates that it has succeeded in reaching the milestone of 8.5 Gb/s “by optimizing a high-speed signal environment between the application processor and memory“. Note that to do this, Samsung was supported by its partner Qualcomm and relied on a Snapdragon mobile platform.

As a reminder, LPDDR5X memory is not new in itself. Its announcement dates back to just under a year, while its initial entry into production materialized at the very end of last year. What is new is this speed record. Encouraging news that proves that Samsung continues to optimize and refine existing technology.
