Samsung has just presented, ahead of CES 2022, which begins on Wednesday, its new MicroLED televisions. Some models are smaller in size than previous versions.
The South Korean giant specifies that its 2022 edition models will be available in 110, 101 and 89 inches. As a reminder, Samsung made this technology available to the general public in 110-inch MicroLED televisions last year.
Better colors and better sound
MicroLED technology uses micrometric-sized LEDs to display individual pixels. It does not use a backlight or color filter, allowing better color accuracy and a higher contrast ratio than conventional LCD TVs, which use a backlight.
Samsung says it has applied 20-bit microcontrast processing technology to MicroLED version 2022 televisions to improve their HDR characteristics. The company adds that its TVs are 100% compliant with the RGB (red, green, blue) color space defined by DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB.
The new MicroLED TVs also support up to four HDMI port connections. It is thus possible to divide the screen into four, in order to display four different contents simultaneously, specifies Samsung. These new models also support Dolby Atmos sound and have speakers on all four sides.
New OLED technology
Samsung also announced that new versions of the Neo QLED TVs will have an improved processor, which will support better contrast mapping than last year’s edition. The screen luminance will now be adjustable to 14 bits rather than 12 bits.
Also ahead of CES, LG Display announced a new OLED technology that would improve screen luminance by up to 30% compared to its predecessors. This technology, called OLED.EX, uses a new organic deuterium-based material and a company-specific algorithm to improve luminance.
LG Display has specified that all OLED screens marketed from the second quarter of 2022 will be equipped with this technology.
