Like last year, Samsung is preparing a Fan Edition version of its latest Galaxy S. The Galaxy S21 FE will be a very interesting proposition, because if it makes some concessions, it also has technical specifications that are sometimes superior to its predecessor, and this for a more affordable price.

After multiple postponements, Samsung could finally launch the smartphone on January 4. The phone would hit the market on January 11, 2022, with no pre-order period.

? What design?
The Galaxy S21 Fan Edition unsurprisingly looks a lot like the classic Galaxy S21 launched six months earlier. This Monday, December 6, 2021, Samsung inadvertently released official images of the Galaxy S21 FE 5G on the website of its store. Unsurprisingly, this design is consistent with the various information and photos disseminated by leakers over the past few months. On its site, the manufacturer has even listed the different shells that will be offered for sale to protect the device.
On the front, the screen is surrounded by thin borders and hides a fingerprint reader under the screen. The front camera is still integrated into a central punch, Samsung for the moment reserving the photo sensor technology under the panel for its Z Fold 3. Behind, there is a photo block similar to that of the S21 with three prominent modules aligned to the vertical and the LED Flash next to it.
The smartphone is expected to be certified water and dust resistant to IP68 and will not have a 3.5mm jack port for connecting wired headphones or earphones. It also does not have a microSD port.
The Galaxy S21 FE would be available in 4 colors: gray, light olive green, light purple and white. It will use the same materials as the Galaxy S21, which is an aluminum chassis and a plastic, not glass back to keep costs down. The colors have also been confirmed since the back covers of smartphones have already been put on sale on spare parts sites. They confirm the presence of 3 cameras on the back and the design very close to that of the Galaxy S21.
The smartphone is made entirely of plastic (which is consistent for a cost issue) but is also slightly flatter than the regular S21. As a reminder, the photo module of the latter still stood out a lot from the chassis, which is not the case here.
❓ Which screen for the S21 FE?
The mobile will be more imposing, because it integrates a larger screen of 6.4 inch, against 6.2 inches on the S21. Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with HDR10 + compatibility and TUV Rheinland anti blue light certification should make a comeback. The definition announced is Full HD +.
The screen supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz dynamically managed as needed and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Of course, the Always-on feature is supported for continuously displaying the time, notifications or battery level on the screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is powered by a Snapdragon 888 SoC engraved in 5nm in most markets, including Europe and the United States. It is rumored that Samsung will also launch a version with an Exynos 2100 chip in some countries. Two configurations of the smartphone would be offered: one with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space and another offering 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory.
? What autonomy and what fast recharge?
The Galaxy S21 Fan Edition should rely on a 4,500mAh battery to ensure good battery life. A capacity greater than 500 mAh than that of the S21 among other things allowed by the additional millimeters of the S21 FE in height and width. The device is expected to support 45W wired charging and offer induction wireless charging function as well as reverse wireless charging.
? Which camera?
Samsung is once again relying on a triple photo sensor on this model. The main module is expected to be identical to that of the Galaxy S21: 12 MP, f / 1.8, 26mm, optical image stabilization (OIS) and phase detection autofocus. The ultra wide-angle should display specifications of 12 MP and aperture f / 2.2, while it’s on the telephoto that we expect the most changes. According to leaker Roland Quandt, we would be dealing with a lens of 8 MP and f / 2.4, against 64 MP and f / 2.0 for the Galaxy S21. It would offer 2X optical zoom.
The front camera for selfies would be different, going from 10 MP on the S21 to 32 MP on the S21 FE, still with an aperture of f.2.2. For video, the Galaxy S21 is capable of filming in 8K, we do not know. not yet if this will also be the case with the Galaxy S21 FE.
? Is the Galaxy S21 FE S-Pen compatible?
The S-Pen stylus was invited to the Galaxy S21 Ultra and is also supported by the foldable screen smartphones that are the Z Fold 3. And to fill the void left by the Note range, Samsung could also offer S-Pen support on the Galaxy S21 FE. It would not be included and the smartphone would not offer a housing to store it, but it might be possible to buy the stylus separately and use it with the S21 FE. If so, a protective case with pen storage should also be marketed.
