the Galaxy S22 Ultra
stands out on benchmark in a comparison between the version under Snapdragon and that under Exynos.

While Samsung will formalize its Galaxy S22 series at an Unpacked conference scheduled for February 9, the Ultra model is making an appearance on Geekbench.

Almost equal performance

And according to the scores measured by the benchmark tool, the performance of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and Samsung’s Exynos 2200 chip are quite similar on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. As a reminder, in Europe, we will be entitled to the Exynos version as usual despite previous reports evoking the possibility of a change this year because of shortages of semiconductors.

In single-score, the S22 Ultra powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 obtains 1,168, against 1,226 for the Exynos 2200. In multi-score, the trend is reversed but the difference remains small. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 reaches 3,508, Samsung’s in-house SoC 3,462.

The GPU to decide between them?

There should therefore not be many differences between the versions of the smartphone, even if the results may vary in real conditions and the autonomy may differ, not to mention the latest optimizations made.

Both chips are based on a similar architecture. They are etched in 4nm thinness and the octa-core CPU consists of one Cortex X2 core, three Cortex A710 cores and four 4 x Cortex A510 cores.

The biggest differences could come from the GPU. Samsung designed that of the Exynos 2200 in partnership with AMD and it is based on the famous RDNA 2. But it is rumored that the Exynos 2200 will be restricted at the level of this GPU, which was originally supposed to be more efficient than that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, in order to avoid heating and improve autonomy.
