Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: we tell you all about the spiritual successor to the Galaxy Note

: the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

As usual, the smartphone and its technical sheet had already leaked widely in recent months. But you might as well put it all back together, with official information this time.

Its real asset? A built-in S Pen

Samsung has fun, plays with words. Also the manufacturer trumpets that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the very first Galaxy S to have an S Pen stylus … integrated into the chassis. Indeed, we had already been able to discover this accessory last year with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. But the impossibility of storing it in its dedicated sheath, like on a Galaxy Note, undermined the interest of the thing quite a bit.

An oddity therefore corrected this year on the Galaxy S22 Ultra which, as much to write it, seems simply to take over the torch from the Galaxy Note range – which has recently been discontinued.

By the way, this S Pen brings with it some new features. Starting with a latency which, already record, is divided by three! We go from 9 ms to 2.3 ms, for ever more responsive writing on the beautiful screen of the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

A screen also equipped with a new matrix signed Wacom, which this time has 480 reading circuits against some 380 on last year’s model. In other words: the S22 Ultra / S Pen couple promises a more natural writing experience than ever before.

An ultra high-end Galaxy

It’s been two years since Samsung added the “Ultra” string to its bow. First with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, then the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it has given itself the means to design smartphones without any concessions, offering the best in terms of performance as well as screen or photography.

Unsurprisingly, the S22 Ultra takes up the torch and offers a particularly muscular technical sheet.

We will find a fairly beefy smartphone (77.9 x 163.3 x 8.9 mm for 229 grams), equipped with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, which displays a QHD + definition and has a frequency of adaptive refresh 1-120 Hz. In game, the touch sampling increases to 240 Hz. The screen is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+.

Another novelty, which is nevertheless common to the entire Galaxy S22 range: the adoption of an Exynos 2200 SoC. Engraved, like its little comrades the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, in 4 nm, it is above all the very first market to acquire an Xclipse 920 GPU, based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. The same as the one that powers the PS5 and Xbox Series X, for example! We are therefore particularly impatient to put it to the test in game.

Among other things, the smartphone will also be equipped with 8 to 12 GB of RAM, and can be configured up to 1 TB of storage. On the battery side, we stay on a 5,000 mAh battery, but this time rechargeable at 45 W wired (15 W wireless). Remember, however, that no charger will be included in the box.

But the latest generation processor will also be put to work in photography – one of the other important markers of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. On the back, the smartphone has four lenses. A wide-angle, which overcomes a 108-megapixel sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, as well as a duo of 10-megapixel telephoto lenses offering 3x and 10x optical zoom. At the front, we will find in the central punch a 40 megapixel sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: price and availability

We expected it given the latest rumours: the launch of the new range of Samsung smartphones is a bit hectic. Also only this Galaxy S22 Ultra will join the usual stalls, from February 25th.

It will launch in black, white and plum colorways at the following prices:

• 8+128 GB: €1259
• 12+256 GB: €1359
• 12+512 GB: €1459
• 12+ 1 TB: €1559
