Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: exit from 10x periscopic zoom?

A few days after the announcement of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Samsung could make a surprising decision with regard to its future high-end smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Last February, during its traditional Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled its new range of smartphones: the Galaxy S23. Very quickly, the Ultra model established itself as one of the best flagships in its range. It had the particularity of being the first smartphone on the market to offer a 10x periscopic zoom. If we could, rightly, hope that his successor would inherit it, unfortunately the opposite seems to be happening…

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: the end of 10x optical zoom?

As usual, the famous leaker ICE UNIVERSE (on X.com) shares with us its latest information about the next Samsung smartphones, and more precisely regarding the very high-end model. According to him, the Korean manufacturer will opt for a 50 megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and another 10 megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom for its Galaxy S24 Ultra. Yes, Samsung has obviously made the decision to part with its 10x periscopic zoom in favor of a more modest configuration.

If all this were to be confirmed, as indicated by our generally well-informed prognosticator friend, the Galaxy S24 Ultra would therefore benefit from lower specifications than the extremely excellent Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Let us recall in passing that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only Apple model to have a 5x optical zoom.

What’s new on the camera side for the S24 Ultra?

If the Galaxy S24 will probably do without its 10x optical zoom, and that is already starting to grate some teeth, Samsung’s new high-end device should not rest on its laurels in terms of photography.

The Korean’s new toy should indeed benefit from an improved 200 megapixel main sensor, thus abandoning the ISOCELL HP2 in favor of the ISOCELL HP25X. The idea would be to provide even more detailed images and colors than in the past, including in low light situations, all thanks to the addition of Dual Vertical Transfer Gate technology.

The giant would also consider incorporating a new screen with thicker borders than ever. In Europe, the Galaxy S24 Ultra should be powered by an Exynos 2400 chip engraved in 4 nanometers, where the United States will logically be able to benefit from Snapdragon Gen 3. If Samsung does not shake up its plans, we will have to wait until February 2024 to find out what the company has in store for us with its new smartphones. Until then, and as is the case every year, the various rumors will undoubtedly continue to liven up our days…
