1… you want generative AI in your hands
The new S24 smartphone line includes several notable artificial intelligence features. And it’s no surprise: Generative AI has been making headlines in 2023, and 2024 promises to be a year when AI truly reaches the next level. So far, Samsung is beating Apple on the generative AI front.
While the iPhone 15 has few generative AI features, the three Samsung Galaxy S24, Plus and Ultra smartphones use generative artificial intelligence in emails, texts, photos, voice memos, home And much more. Like Google Pixel phones, S24 users can move subjects in a photo and generate part of an image to fill the freed space. A Galaxy S24 user could call someone who speaks another language and use the real-time AI-powered translation feature to converse with an older relative living in another country, for example.
The Galaxy S24 also generates text for emails, transcribes and summarizes voice memos, and allows users to circle an item on an image to perform a Google search! I can’t comment on what Apple will launch this year, but the iPhone 15 is certainly not at that level yet.
2… a fast smartphone is important to you
The iPhone 15 has an Apple A16 Bionic processor, while the Galaxy S24 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Although both processors are 4 nanometers (nm), the S24 has 8 GB of RAM, compared to 6 GB for the iPhone 15.
These 4nm processors are advanced chips offering better performance, faster processing speeds, smooth multitasking, and improved power efficiency compared to previous models. But they also take advantage of the device’s available RAM to deliver optimal performance. A 4nm processor combined with higher RAM should maximize the system’s ability to handle more processes simultaneously and put less strain on the processor.
3… you want smoother scrolling in bright light
The iPhone 15’s refresh rate caps at 60Hz unless you opt for the Pro or Pro Max models. The Samsung Galaxy S24, on the other hand, has a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz to adapt to the content displayed on the device.
You don’t have to be a hardcore video gamer to appreciate a variable refresh rate: this feature also allows for smoother scrolling of video playback, and since the refresh rate is dynamic and automatically lowered when static content is displayed, such as a photo, the S24 saves battery and processing power.
The Galaxy S24 also offers a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits, which is a big difference from the 1,000 nits of the iPhone 15. This means that your S24’s screen remains readable when you are in bright light, such as at outside in sunny weather.

1… you prefer a better resolution
The iPhone 15’s screen is slightly smaller than the Galaxy S24’s, by about 0.1 inch. But its resolution and pixel density are higher, which is favorable for displaying more realistic and sharper images. If you can do without the lower refresh rate and peak brightness in favor of a sharper image, the iPhone 15 is far from a bad choice.
2. …you appreciate the Apple ecosystem
Many iPhone fans prefer to stay loyal to the Apple brand because they enjoy being immersed in its ecosystem. The ease with which users can switch between devices, knowing that they can always rely on them with few issues or bugs, has been enough to convince many users to continue purchasing the iPhone.
That being said, Apple operates like a walled garden, selling exclusivity for sometimes frivolous features like blue message bubbles and devices that all look and act the same. But some Apple fans find comfort in the expected, knowing that the next iPhone they buy will work just like the last one and be seamlessly compatible with their iPad, AirPods, and Apple Watch.
If you already use an iPhone and are considering upgrading to the Galaxy S24, I can only recommend that you think carefully about what you value in the Apple ecosystem, because you cannot, for example, use an Apple Watch with a Samsung phone, after all. But if you’re considering it and are still curious and ready to leave the predictable iPhone world, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is a great alternative.
