  • Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab A8.
  • The latest tablet in the A series is due to hit the market in January.
  • The manufacturer emphasizes the sound and the display.

Samsung has introduced a new Android tablet. This is a model of the A series, which is known for tablets in the middle to lower price segment. The release of the Galaxy Tab A8 is scheduled for January 22nd, 2022 and will accordingly take place shortly before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S22.

Display and sound as a figurehead

Samsung also revealed the specifications of the Tab A8 in its press release. According to the manufacturer, the device should particularly impress with its panorama display and surround sound. With a diagonal of 10.5 inches, the display offers a “normal size” and is neither particularly large nor particularly small for a tablet. The resolution of the WUXGA display is 1,920 x 1,200 pixels and the image format is 16:10.

The sound of the tablet comes from a total of four integrated speakers, which are equipped with Dolby Atmos surround sound.

What else does the Galaxy Tab A8 have to offer?

At 6.9 millimeters, the Tab A8 is the slimmest tablet in the A series to date and has a metal surface that weighs 508 grams. The processing looks modern and high-quality, at least on the pictures, although that can only be said more precisely as soon as the tablet appears and a test device arrives in the editorial office.

Samsung does not reveal which processor is working in the tablet. According to the manufacturer, it offers up to 10 percent more performance compared to its predecessor. Even if the A8 is not a top tablet, the computing power should at least be sufficient for surfing, streaming and simple office tasks.

The battery is also adequately dimensioned on paper with 7,040 mAh, although Samsung has not yet given any details about an exact runtime when actively used. The battery can be charged with up to 15 watts and is therefore full again relatively quickly.

As is typical for tablets, the cameras are rather weaker. The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and the front camera has only 5 megapixels. That should be enough for taking pictures or video chat, but really high quality is not to be expected here.

The storage space is also meager. In the basic version it is just 32 gigabytes. In addition, only about 19 gigabytes of this can be used, which is just enough for downloading a few apps and films. Therefore, you can hardly avoid buying additional memory cards. Overall, the tablet’s memory can be expanded by a terabyte as a result.

Price and availability

As already mentioned, the Galaxy Tab A8 will be released on January 22nd. Then there will be two versions in three colors each: Dark Gray, Silver and Gold Pink. According to Samsung, the Wi-Fi version will cost 229 euros, while the LTE version costs 278 euros.

Netzwelt thinks

A detailed evaluation of the Galaxy Tab A8 before the release is difficult because the live performance can deviate from the manufacturer’s data. Judging by the specifications, the Tab A8 is a tablet with a solid price-performance ratio.

You will have to buy a memory card with it, but if you are looking for a stylish tablet for surfing and streaming series and films, you can take a look at the device.
