Samsung has to dress warmly: the new folding cell phone has it all

Samsung still dominates the market with foldable smartphones. But the competition is getting stronger and even surpasses the South Korean manufacturer. This is what happened with the Vivo X Fold, which, in addition to some technical advantages, makes no compromises when it comes to the construction of the folding mechanism.

Vivo X Fold: New folding cell phone presented

As is now common with Chinese smartphone manufacturers, that is Vivo X Fold was initially only presented for China. It remains to be seen whether it will come to Europe. But what Vivo has built with the X Fold is a really strong alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (for testing). You get a high-end smartphone with a foldable display that also folds completely, leaving no opening on the side. So far, hardly any manufacturer has managed to do this and they have also succeeded with the help of the German manufacturer Schott, which provides the Ultra Thin Glass (UTG).

The Vivo X Fold basically works like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. Inside is a 8-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 2K+ resolution, which supports a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. The external display with 6.53-inch AMOLED panel is equipped with FHD+ resolution and 120 Hz. A fingerprint sensor is integrated in both screens.

The Vivo X Fold is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which has 12 GB of RAM and either 256 or 512 GB of internal memory. Android 12 with OriginOS Ocean is used, which has been specially adapted for folding cell phones. Of the Battery measures 4,600 mAh and can be quickly recharged with a cable with 66 watts and wirelessly with 50 watts.

A The highlight of the Vivo X Fold should be the camera. While Samsung makes compromises with its smartphone, it goes all out here. There is a 50 MP main sensor, 48 MP super wide angle, 12 MP portait camera and 8 MP periscope zoom with 5x optical magnification. In addition, there are 16 MP front cameras in both displays.

Vivo X Fold: price and availability

As mentioned above, the Vivo X Fold is only available in China. The start of sales there is planned for April 22nd. Of the Price is 8,999 yuan (equivalent to 1,300 euros) for the 256 GB version and 9,999 yuan (equivalent to 1,445 euros) for the model with 512 GB of internal memory. It remains to be seen whether this folding cell phone will find its way to Germany. We wouldn’t count on it. Maybe someday as a OnePlus model.
