- Samsung will end support for some Android devices in February.
- Among other things, the popular Galaxy A51 and A01 cell phones will no longer receive updates from now on.
- The Galaxy Tab S6 is also no longer supported by the manufacturer.
The South Korean manufacturer Samsung continues to provide its cell phones and tablets with software updates for many years after their market launch. For example, the new top smartphones in the Galaxy S24 series will be updated until 2031. At some point, the longest support will end, and in February 2024 several Samsung cell phones and tablets will be affected.
The following devices have been removed from Samsung’s regular security patch list:
Galaxy A51, A01 and Tab S6 affected
- Samsung Galaxy A51
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
- Samsung Galaxy A01
In addition, the Galaxy Tab A8 and the Galaxy A03 only receive updates every six months; previously they were provided with security patches every quarter.
The update is likely to affect many fans, because the Galaxy A51 was one of the best-selling cell phones worldwide in 2019. The affordable A01, which was also released in 2019, also sold millions of copies. If you are looking for an alternative, you can go straight to the current model generation of the device in question.
These are the best alternatives
For the Galaxy A01 it is the Galaxy A05s. It is currently available online for around 150 euros. The current model in the A5x series is the Galaxy A54. But it could soon be replaced by the Galaxy A55. It is sometimes worth waiting a few days before exchanging something.

In general, you can of course continue to use all three models without support. However, keep in mind that without regular security patches, devices become more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Especially if you do online banking via your cell phone or tablet, you should pay attention to the latest software and hardware.
