Samsung televisions can also be controlled by voice. You currently have the choice between the Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and the in-house voice assistant Bixby. From March, however, only Bixby and Alexa will be available to you. The Google Assistant will be removed from the manufacturer’s smart TVs, Samsung announced on its US website. The South Korean manufacturer cites changes in Google’s guidelines for using the tool as the reason for this, without going into further detail.

The announcement comes as a surprise, but the departure of the Google Assistant on Samsung televisions had already been indicated. The voice assistant could no longer be found on the models released in 2023. Now it is also being removed on older Smart TVs. The following televisions are specifically affected by the change:

Older Smart TV models affected

  • all Smart TV models released in 2022
  • all Smart TV models released in 2021
  • All 8K and 4K QLED TV sets were released in 2020
  • all Crystal UHD TVs released in 2020
  • all lifestyle TVs released in 2020 (Frame, Serif, Terrace and Sero)

There is no such information on Samsung’s German website yet. However, Samsung is unlikely to remove the Assistant from its TVs in just some markets. We assume that the cooperation will end worldwide. We’ll know more by March at the latest.
