To support ever more powerful GPUs, the next generation of graphics cards will need ever faster GDDR.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it is quite possible that AMD and NVIDIA will take advantage of the release of new generations of GPUs to associate them with ever faster GDDR6.

For a bandwidth of 1.1 TB/s

The two graphics card giants can in any case count on Samsung to provide them with high-level components. Indeed, the South Korean has just formalized the sampling of the first GDDR6 DRAM which offers speeds of 24 Gbps.

To achieve this, Samsung relied on its so-called third-generation 10-nanometer processor. It uses EUV (extreme ultraviolet) technology and should logically significantly boost memory bandwidth compared to older 18 Gbps chips.

In its press release, Samsung explains that integrated with high-end graphics cards, its 24 Gbps GDDR6 DRAM allows speeds of 1.1 TB / s, ” i.e. 275 Full HD movies in one second “. Of course, Samsung adds that, “ complies with JEDEC specifications », its GDDR6 DRAM will be « compatible with all GPU models “.

Along with the release of the 24 Gbps, Samsung mentions 20 Gbps and 16 Gbps versions with ” approximately 20% higher power efficiency at 1.1V, compared to industry standard GDDR6 of 1.35V “. Finally, he specifies that marketing should take place at the same time as the new graphics platforms “.
