The series of MicroLED TVs from Samsung should actually be expanded by a model with an 89-inch screen diagonal in 2022. Now the new device cannot go into production after all.
- For 2022, Samsung already presented new MicroLED televisions at CES.
- The new generation of TV sets should be up to 114 inches in size.
- Now the production of the “small” 89-incher has been postponed for the time being.
Instead of May 2022, the production of the MicroLED television with an 89-inch screen diagonal from Samsung will probably only start in the third quarter of the year. This is what the Korean electrical industry medium The Elec reports – and also explains why it is so:
In contrast to the 99-inch model, which is based on the technology already used in the 110-inch from last year, the 89-inch version probably uses much more sensitive material, and delays may occur in its production.
The 101- and 114-inch models are also affected: These TV sets are also said to use the same LTPS-TFTs (small elements that make up the panels) as are used in the popular OLED displays comes.
Caution, difference: MicroLED is not MiniLED
There is obviously a risk of confusion between the terms MicroLED and MiniLED because both technologies come into play in the TV context: MiniLED TVs are LCD screen units with LED backlighting, while MicroLED technology uses tiny self-illuminating LED units and thus more like the structure of an OLED display.
