Samsung One UI 5 (Android 13) copies some ideas from iOS 16’s Lock Screen

You know the song: the smartphone market is highly competitive. Thus, when a company has a good idea, it tends to be imitated by others. This is all the more true for Apple, which has the special power to know how to launch fashions and trends in this sector. The last example comes from Samsung’s One UI 5 interface based on Android 13. In its beta 3, it takes some good inspiration from the iOS 16 Lock Screen.

This is indeed what TechDroider explains in a video posted on YouTube. In the latter, we can quickly get to grips with the new beta of One UI 5. If it is difficult to be able to tax Samsung with the simple dishonorable title of the ugly copier, the South Korean giant has clearly drawn ideas seen on the iPhone lock screen taking advantage of the latest version of iOS.

Let’s say it right away, on this beta of Samsung One UI 5, and unlike iOS 16, no element of the wallpaper goes over the clock. The similarities are more subtle. Let’s start with the time display which looks a lot like what you can see on Apple smartphones. And on beta 3 of One UI 5 as on iOS 16, a long press on this module gives access to the customization options.

Five clock layouts are available to you on One UI 5 – compared to eight on iOS 16. You can also change the size, color or even the appearance of the numbers. In TechDroider’s video, the similarity between Samsung’s and Apple’s interfaces is obvious when the videographer holds the two devices side by side.

On the other hand, there are two notable elements brought by Samsung on One UI 5 and which are not found on iOS 16. On the one hand, you can modify the opacity of the notifications which are displayed on the screen of lockdown. On the other hand, the two icons at the bottom of the screen serving as shortcuts can be changed to open the applications of your choice from the locked screen.

The rest of the video also shows a One UI 5 interface refining the look of its icons to follow Material You guidelines. The animations seem smooth as well. Finally, remember that Samsung’s beta program is not officially available in France.
