Ahead of CES, Samsung is presenting a new SSD with record performance thanks to PCI Express 5.0.

Samsung presents its first PCIe 5.0 SSD and it pays off

Storage has become in a few years a crucial component alongside the processor, graphics chip and RAM. Game consoles like the PS5 have put particular emphasis on the top speed of their latest generation SSDs.

It is also a sector where we are experiencing major developments by pushing the capacities of PCI Express on PC to a minimum.

Up to 13 GB / s read

Among the best SSD manufacturers, there is Samsung which takes advantage of the days before CES to adopt the all new PCI Express 5.0 on an SSD.

The Samsung PM1743 is aimed at businesses, but there is no doubt that the brand should soon offer the same kind of SSD for the general public, when the technology becomes more democratic.

The brand announces that it has been able to test its new SSD in partnership with Intel. It must be said that it was the latter who was the first to adopt PCIe 5.0 with its 12th generation Intel Core processors. AMD is expected to move there in the course of 2022.

Among the features announced, Samsung promises a read speed of 13,000 MB / s sequentially, and 2,500,000 random read IOPS, ie 1.7 to 1.9x the speed of PCIe 4.0 SSDs.

On the writing side, Samsung promises 6600 MB / s in sequential and 250,000 IOPS in random. Again, this is almost double the performance of the previous generation.

Samsung also announces that the energy efficiency of this SSD will be improved by 30% compared to the previous generation.

PCI Express 6.0 in the crosshairs

Samsung is also taking the opportunity to quietly announce that they are already working on the first PCI Express 6.0 storage solutions.

The storage market has therefore not finished its evolution.
