It’s not a TV or a PC screen … it’s both. For CES 2022, Samsung is adding new functions including a magnetic webcam, cloud gaming, but also a connected home hub.

Following on from the first Smart Monitor released in 2020, Samsung has just unveiled the M8. The idea is always the same: to create a screen that is able to meet both the demands of PC users, but also those looking for a Smart TV.
No change in size
The result is a 32-inch diagonal, 4K definition all-in-one IPS LCD display. It’s only 11.4mm thick, which is significantly thinner than the 2021 M7 model. In addition, arguably the most impressive feature is its magnetic and mobile SlimFit camera that can clip to the monitor for users. video calls. The monitor itself supports video chat apps like Google Duo.

Samsung wants to make it a device that can also manage the home: it therefore embeds SmartThings IoT Hub to manage connected devices. The same for cloud gaming, we find Game Home, but we do not yet have details on the models that will be supported or the compatible accessories. Note all the same that the new Samsung televisions embed Stadia and GeForce Now natively.
Note that this monitor-screen-TV can also charge a laptop using a USB-C cable up to 65 Watts with transfer of the video stream (to have 2 screens). It has a remote control with a full Tizen system, including apps such as Netflix or myCanal. We also noted AirPlay 2, DeX compatibility as well as Office 365 and Remote PC functionality. But that’s not a novelty, it was already the case on the previous model.
Finally, what seems to be missing are technical characteristics for gaming. It will be necessary to check the latency, the quality of the audio… but Samsung does not seem to have added FreeSync compatibility or more advanced connections than HDMI. The panel changes little, Samsung has not communicated its full technical characteristics.
