The TV number and the model designation of your Samsung TV says a lot about its functions and properties. This information is also important for registering your smart TV or repairing your device. After your Samsung TV has arrived at your home, you will receive an additional information sheet in the packaging. This contains the exact serial number of your device. From this you can read, among other things, in which country of manufacture and on which date your television was produced. You need the serial number in the first step to register on the Samsung website.

The difference between model name and serial number?

The model number and serial number also have different purposes for the manufacturer Samsung. The model number is a 15-digit code made up of letters and numbers, such as “ZAJ33SEDC00652L”. This gives you information about the year of manufacture and the country of origin of a number of models, which also includes your television.

The difference to the serial number is that it is only a combination of numbers, e.g. e.g. “6007041”. In addition, the serial number gives you a unique identifier that is only intended for your device. This is particularly important for tracing your TV and in the event of a repair. That’s why customer service often asks you for the model and serial number.

Where can you find the serial and model number?

There are several ways to record the serial and model number of your Samsung TV. On the one hand, you can make sure after the purchase that you keep the operating instructions or the information sheet for your device. To be on the safe side, you can take a photo of the packaging or the information sheet and upload it to a cloud service. So you can access it at any time.

Another way to note the serial and model number is to simply look on the back of your TV. There is an information label attached that also has the model number on it. Adjustment of model numbers

The naming of TV model codes has changed completely since 2008, with the design and structure of TV model codes being adjusted. As new TVs come out, Samsung updates the model numbers of their devices. You should pay attention to this if you want to find out more about the model number of your Samsung TV.

Between 2017 and 2018, a new naming for QLED TVs was introduced. In 2018, a new name for special TV series of the type “The Frame” from the LifeStyle line followed. With the production of TVs with 8K screens, the TV model numbers were changed again in 2019. Another adaptation followed in 2022 with the OLED TV series from the manufacturer Samsung.

What is the meaning of the model number?

For example, the model code of your Samsung TV could be “UE82RU8009UXZG”. But what information can you draw from this? In the following list we give you information about the individual components. We will go into more detail about the details and different models from Samsung later on.

If there is a “U” in the second digit of your model number, then it means you have an LED TV. A “Q” stands for QLED.

For older models from 2008, the technology is mentioned first. “U” and “Q” have the same meaning. “G” represents the QLED models manufactured in 2018-2019. “P” stands for plasma, “L” for LCD and “K” refers to a Samsung OLED TV.

Size

The third digit of your model code is usually the size of your screen diagonal in inches. Here you will find sizes like “32”, “50” or “65”. Even with older Samsung models, the screen size is usually referred to here.

Display type/series designation

Next, you will receive a more precise classification on your model code in terms of the display types or the series designation of your Samsung TV. For models from 2020, the display type is usually mentioned first, which is specified, for example, with “Q” for QLED or “QN” for Neo QLED. A “T” refers to Full HD, while “AU” means UHD.

This is followed by the series designation. Here you can see examples like “5379 / 8079” or “60 / 95”. With lifestyle TVs such as “The Frame”, the series designation “03 / 01” appears here.

TV model code and country code

The serial number initially starts with a TV model code. This can be called ZAJ3, for example, and is a factory code that gives you information about the features of your Samsung TV. These are supplier codes and serve as components for TV assembly. The number 3 stands for a product code, which indicates that your product is a television.

The fifth digit of the serial number tells you in which country your television was assembled. The letter “S” stands for Slovenia, “H” for Hungary, “L” for Russia, “W” for China, “C” for Mexico and “M” for Malaysia. The numbers also have a specific assignment to a country. “4” means Romania and Korea has the numbers 1 and 3.

If your model number starts with “QN”, then your QLED TV comes from America, “QE” stands for QLED TV Europe, “GQ” is the QLED TV from Germany, “KQ” stands for QLED TV Korea and “QA” means a QLED TV from the Middle East, Asia, Pacific and Africa.

The QLED televisions from Samsung make a difference. Here the country of origin is the last digit in your model number. “ZA” stands for USA, “RU” means Russia, “UA” means Ukraine, “ZC” stands for Chile, “XU” for Europe, “ZC” for Canada, “XU” for Great Britain and “XY” for Australia.

Then comes the display resolution, 90 stands for UHD and 900 means 8K. You will not find such a high screen resolution from other manufacturers at the moment.

Construction year

After the resolution follows the year of manufacture of your television. If you can find an “R” then your TV was developed in 2019, “T” stands for 2020, “A” means the year 2021 and “B” means brand new from the year 2022.

TV generations

At the next point you will find the classification of the TV generations. If you see an “A” on your model number then your TV is 1st generation, “B” is 2nd generation, “S” stands for Super Feature TVs. “G” stands for a TV from Germany.

Tuner type and version

The tuner type on your TV will be listed after that. “F” stands for ATSC/QAM and comes from the USA and Canada. “U” stands for DVB and is from Europe. And “G” is ISDB-T from Latin America. “T” is 2x DVB. And “X” means the version.
