Samsung Wallet will soon integrate your driving license, one year after Apple

Samsung has just announced the arrival of driving licenses in its Wallet application. The feature will first be available in the United States, in a few hand-selected states. The manufacturer specifies, however, that the latter will then extend to other regions, without us having a precise date at present. Developers will be able to use the driving license to verify the identity of their users.

Last year, Samsung launched Wallet with great fanfare, its own digital wallet to compete with solutions from Google and Apple. At the same time, the latter improved its application by allowing users to store their driving license, among their means of payment and other loyalty cards. A year later, Samsung is finally starting to follow suit.

The Korean firm has just announced that its first tests for the integration of the driving license into Samsung Wallet will soon begin. However, we will have to be patient to take advantage of it on our side of the globe. To begin with, only users residing in the United States, specifically Arizona and Iowa, will be able to take advantage of the feature.

The manufacturer also indicates that other American states will soon join the beta, but did not give a precise deployment date. We may therefore have to wait a while longer before being able to enjoy it in France. For now, we only know that Samsung is working hand in hand with American institutions to ensure the smooth running of the operation, and above all the security of user data.

Furthermore, the functionality will not only be used to store your driving license. The latter can also be used to verify one’s identity on applications that request it. Samsung is in fact preparing a development kit which “will allow application creators to easily place a “verified identification” button in their application in order to effectively and securely prove the identity of a user”, explain the firm.
