Samsung would follow in Apple’s footsteps with this new feature

Like Apple with its iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung would in turn switch to titanium for its next premium smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

After aluminum and stainless steel, titanium is now popular. After Apple which designed a titanium chassis for its iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max – but also its Apple Watch Ultra and Watch Ultra 2 – it would be Samsung’s turn to tackle this lighter and more resistant material for its next high-end smartphone.

Indeed, according to information from the South Korean site The Elec, generally very well informed about Samsung’s projects, the manufacturer would indeed have planned to design a titanium shell for its future Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Like Apple, Samsung would reserve this material for its most high-end smartphone, retaining aluminum for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus.

The project would be well advanced for Samsung which would be in “ final steps » in order to recover enough materials to launch production of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it seems that this is not the manufacturer’s first attempt to offer titanium for one of its smartphones. “ Sources said Samsung tried to apply titanium in its smartphone chassis two years ago, but the decision to commercialize the technology only recently came to fruition. “, noted The Elec.

A more resistant material, but heavier than aluminum

Titanium has several advantages over both stainless steel or aluminum for smartphone design. This metal is in fact more resistant to shocks and lighter than steel, and much more resistant than aluminum for shocks, while being less conductive of heat. However, titanium is not an absolutely perfect metal and in particular presents a greater risk of scratching than steel. It is also a heavier material than aluminum, previously used for Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra. “ The adoption of titanium also means the Galaxy S24 Ultra likely won’t be 10% lighter than its predecessor », suggests The Elec.

This isn’t the first time rumors have suggested Samsung will switch to titanium for the Galaxy S24 lineup. In August, leaker Ice Universe already indicated that the Galaxy S24 Ultra would be made of titanium. At the end of September, it was OnLeaks which also claimed that the smartphone would be made of titanium. The information of The Elec therefore corroborate previous leaks.

We should know more about the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra during their official presentation. This should take place during the month of January, probably on January 18, 2024.
