Samsung is making it easier to self-repair its digital devices by expanding the number of devices eligible for its program. Users of foldable smartphones in the range can now repair their products themselves by purchasing the necessary repair parts and tools from Samsung stores or online from third-party repairers.
The company has added the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and other foldable smartphones to the list of devices that can be repaired by users. Expected to follow are the Galaxy S23 models, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Book 2 Pro series.
Until now, the self-repair programs concerned Galaxy S20, S21, S22 smartphones and Tab S7 tablets. The Galaxy Book Pro 15″ and Galaxy Book Pro 360 15″ laptops were also affected.
Seven components are covered
Samsung first launched its self-repair program in the United States in 2022 before expanding it to South Korea and Europe (including France) this year.
Smartphones can be self-repaired for parts such as the screen, back cover, charging port, and speakers. For laptops, seven components are covered: the display, the touchpad, and the fingerprint power button.
Users can view repair manuals and videos for each part to be replaced on the Samsung website. They can also optimize the operation of spare parts using the “Self-Repair Assistant App”.
