Guest of the Canal+ show “Clique”, Samy Naceri announced that he was going to direct his first feature film, in which he will star alongside Jean-Marie Bigard and Chantal Ledesou.
Absent from the screens for several years, Samy Naceri will return with his own film entitled MDR. The Taxi actor will indeed direct and play in his first feature film. And against all odds, this is not an action movie.
He thus explains to Mouloud Achour in the Canal+ program, Cliquethat he will adapt the short story of his friend Eric Atlan LOLand that he will play the main role alongside Chantal Ladesou and Jean-Marie Bigard.
“This is the story of a wealthy landowner who is jealous of everyone. His wife is cheating on him, they want to steal his loot and he is buried alive. He goes up to heaven and he sees his father, whom I also interpret, who tells him to come back down. So he has a Near Death Experience and he comes back to settle his accounts..”
Mouloud then questions the actor about his desire to go behind the camera at the age of 61. Samy Naceri then declares “it hit me. Eric Atlan, who is an old friend with whom I made my debut in the cinema, showed me this short story, we had it adapted by my brother bibi, and he was like, “Why don’t you realize?” I said okay.
My son Julian directed his film (Editor’s note: the short film No Way Out), my brother too (Editor’s note : the soon-to-be-released feature The Sword of Damocles) so I thought, “Maybe it’s my turn. If everything goes as planned, we are filming at the end of August, beginning of September in the Lubéron”.
The presenter then asks Samy Naceri if this is, according to him, the beginning of his rebirth in the cinema. Revealed for having played Daniel Morales in the Taxi saga, the actor has not appeared in the cinema in a first role for many years. The comedian was even ousted from Taxi 5 released in 2018.
Naceri explains: “I think there is a kind of renaissance if you can put it that way. Anyway, I was away for quite a while. There are movies that haven’t been released because of the Covid, so I have 4 movies to come, but I’m even hungrier than before. I want to go back to where I was. I miss it so here I go.”
Relaunched on the reasons for his absence on the screen, the actor declares: “I struggled for several reasons: rumors, pitfalls, false rumours… Lots of things. And when I look around me, I see that there are many artists who have gone through a bad patch like me and at some point something happens and you have to go there and take the bull by the horns.“
