A man drove a car to the Chinese consulate in San Francisco.
After police were contacted, shots were fired and the driver died.
On Monday evening local time, a car crashed into the lobby of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco, California. This led to a large contingent of firefighters and police. According to police, she tried to contact the driver after entering the consulate. There were then shots fired in the building and the driver ultimately succumbed to it in the hospital.
The background and identity of the driver are currently unclear. There is a large police presence around the building.
The Chinese consulate condemned the “violent attack” in its own statement. It says that driving into the lobby by force would have posed a real danger to the safety of employees and other people present. There was also serious damage to the building.
