ARD is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sandra Maischberger’s talk format. There is no end to the show in sight.

20 years ago again… On September 2nd, 2003, Sandra Maischberger (57) went on air for the first time with her own talk show on Erste. Praise for a big birthday ARD praised their presenter highly. “Sandra Maischberger has the talent to create a very special conversation atmosphere,” enthuses ARD program director Christine Strobl (52) in a press release. “She persistently asks questions in a charming way, always remains factual, but also gets closer to the guests and their stories personally.”

Tom Buhrow (64), director of WDR, joins the hymn of praise. “Since she first went on air in 2003, Sandra Maischberger has distinguished herself through her journalistic competence and a special instinct for dealing with her guests.” Westdeutscher Rundfunk is responsible for the production of “Maischberger”.

Sandra Maischberger “happy and proud” for over 20 years

Sandra Maischberger herself also has her say in the message. “When we started the show in 2003, I couldn’t imagine that it would run for 20 years or more,” she says gratefully. “It makes me very happy and proud.” And further: “Thanks to my editorial team and WDR, this program has been able to change again and again. Looking at the past 20 years is also a bit of a look at the changing topics and debate culture of this time,” the moderator explains.

This is how “Maischberger” changed over the years

Maischberger’s talk show started in 2003 under the name “People at Maischberger”. The format took over the time slot of its successful predecessor “Boulevard Bio”, on Tuesdays at 10:45 p.m. Alfred Biolek (1934-2021) is said to have personally selected Sandra Maischberger as his successor.

Today the presenter on ARD welcomes her guests for discussion twice a week, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after the “Tagesthemen”. The next show “maischberger” will be shown on September 13th at 10:50 p.m.

ARD is not thinking about ending the format. “Looking forward to many more exciting programs and more of them,” writes Christine Ströbl.
