“Fleave him in peace”, “he has been punished enough”. Thursday February 9, Jean-Luc Mélenchon left the BFMTV set, furious, after questions about Adrien Quatennens, during which he defended the deputy convicted of violence against his ex-girlfriend. An initiative denounced by Sandrine Rousseau, this Sunday, during an interview granted to European 1. “Yes, it shocked me,” admitted the member for Paris.

Another sequence also challenged the former finalist in the environmentalist presidential primary: Adrien Quatennens’ speech at the National Assembly on Tuesday, February 7, despite his conviction for domestic violence. When he rose to present an amendment to the pension reform, the deputy who sits – for a few months – among the non-registered provoked contradictory reactions and emblematic of the embarrassment of the parties on the subject. Some deputies from La France insoumise, relatives of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, applauded him, although he was excluded from the group for four months. At the same time, elected representatives of Nupes, Sandrine Rousseau in the lead, left the hemicycle crying “scandal” and “shame”.

Adrien Quatennens must not speak “for four months”

“Four months is the time of the suspended sentence which he received, following the judgment. The minimum, and I say this with great emotion, but the minimum is that he does not speak for four months, ”continued the ecologist, this Sunday. “It’s not much, he wouldn’t die of it. But it would be out of respect for people who are victims of domestic violence, ”assured the MP. “In the name of which we put affection (for Adrien Quatennens, editor’s note) above political battles as important as that of women’s safety”, she concluded. The intervention of Adrien Quatennens in the Assembly resulted in an interruption of the session and left open the question of the fate which should be reserved for elected officials implicated in sexual and gender-based violence.READ ALSO Michel Richard – Sandrine Rousseau’s distress signal
