Santander: a loan of 300 million euros from the EIB

(CercleFinance.com) – The European Investment Bank (EIB) announced on Monday that it would grant a loan of 300 million euros to the Spanish bank Santander for the development of its solar activities in Brazil.

The project is part of the ‘Global Gateway’ strategy implemented by Brussels, which aims to establish lasting links in the fields of digital technology, energy and transport throughout the world.

The funds granted by the EIB are intended for the installation of a series of small photovoltaic power plants for self-consumption in Brazil, mainly on the roofs of private homes and buildings of SMEs, for a total power of around 600 MWp.

Santander, which is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, invested some six billion euros in sustainability activities in Brazil last year.
