Santander: Credit Suisse raises its opinion

In a note on Southern European banks, for which it says ‘new winds of change are changing the outlook’, Credit Suisse downgrades Santander from ‘neutral’ to ‘outperform’ with price target raised to 3.3 four euros.

He says he picks the stock, as well as Caixabank as ‘new winners in changing waters’, raising his views ‘based on the healthiest geographic exposures and encouraging upside potential from rate hikes’.

Regarding Santander’s exposure to Brazil, the broker notes that ‘the market is less worried about the political outlook before the elections’, and points to ‘the encouraging appreciation of the ral, in a context of rising commodity prices’.
