BRIGITTE.de: Please explain to us what the Pinterest campaign is all about.
Sara Nuru: There’s a new feature on Pinterest that lets you create and upload your own tutorials. I recently started pottery and am sharing a guide for a self-made mug. Until December 15th, everyone can share their creative ideas directly under my Idea Pin in the form of a take and thus automatically take part in the competition. You can win an annual subscription to my label nuruCoffee and a mug made by myself. It is particularly great that Pinterest on behalf of: the winner: in 3,000 euros to my club nuruWomen e. V. donates that supports women in need in Ethiopia. The winner (s) can then decide which project the money will go to.

Is it generally important to you to do good when giving gifts?
Overall, I try to consume less and instead to be more creative. Homemade is always a more sustainable alternative. When I do buy something new, I try to support small businesses and not go to the big brands. Then I know: My purchase decision has an influence and supports their business.

What would you never give away?
In my opinion, there are no real taboos when it comes to giving gifts. You want to make the recipient happy. But if there was one thing it was perfumes. It’s so individual and personal, difficult to meet your taste.

What’s the craziest gift you’ve ever received?
Oh yes, I totally remembered that. It was a homemade card game. And different dictators were printed on the cards, really the worst ever – totally brutal, I know – and instead of their face my face. Funny and mean at the same time!

The most beautiful present?
I was given a photo book with lots of pictures from my trip to Ethiopia. It’s now next to my bed, I often look in before going to bed, especially now in the pandemic, when I have wanderlust. This is something self-made, extremely complex, linked to memories – in other words, very emotional. Really the nicest present I have ever received.

Your biggest Christmas wish?
I want time with my family. Especially now that we all live in different cities, I am looking forward to coming together. And I hope that we will then consciously spend time together, also offline. For example, I love game nights. Yes, the thought of celebrating a relaxed and, above all, peaceful festival this year makes me happy.

What is pottery all about?
I’ve wanted to do pottery for so long, but the courses in Berlin were always fully booked. Then some time ago I attended a month-long pottery retreat. It relaxed me so much and was really good for me. That’s why I’m giving away mainly pottery, cups, plates and small vases this year. And then I always make small engravings, the name of the person, a small heart or the nuruCoffee label.

Coffee cups and your coffee label? Is there something going on?
I already thought something was true. But I don’t put myself under pressure and see what the future brings. For the moment, pottery is my hobby. Maybe more will come of it, maybe not. Until then, I’ll be further inspired by Pinterest.
