SC2: Frenchman Clem wins Dreamhack Europe (again)

It is now a tradition: in the end, Clem wins. The young Frenchman Clement “Clem” Desplanches, 20 years old, won again the European title at the DreamHack Masters 2022 in Atlanta this weekend with his Terrans. The Team Liquid player had finished second in his group in October behind the German GunGFuBanDa and had scared himself by being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the upper bracket against a big piece, the Finn Serralone of the favorites of the competition.

Reversed in lower bracket, Clem started an incredible comeback by beating Lambo 3/1 then MaxPax and heRoMaRinE by the same score. In the semi-final of the bottom bracket, Clem easily won against another German, ShoWTimE, then ironically, fell on Serral in the small final to take his revenge (3/1). All that remained was to do a good performance against the Italian Reynor in BO7. Clem, after missing the first two sets, was imperial in the last 4 and lifted the trophy.

As a reminder, this is the 5th time he has won the title, in the last six editions since winter 2020. The last time was this summer in Valencia. A title acquired by beating… reynor, decidedly become his worst enemy. On the French side, note also the performance of ShaDoWn who made it to the first round of the playoffs. Clem has therefore secured his place at the DH Masters Atlanta and a top 3 in the ESL Pro Tour 2022/23 Europe for the IEM Katowice 2023.
