(BFM Bourse) – In the greatest discretion, the French specialist in medium voltage electrical equipment joined, at the end of last week, the inner circle made up of ten French groups to have crossed the threshold of 100 billion euros valuation.
23 years after the pioneer FranceTelecom, which had reached this symbolic bar of 100 billion euros of market capitalization in the middle of an internet bubble, in 1999, Schneider Electric became last week the tenth group to cross (briefly) this mark, at the end of an exceptional rally lasting almost two years (+ 190% between the low of March 19, 2020 and January 5, 2022).
In the meantime, only 8 other groups had joined the circle of “centi-billionaires”, from TotalEnergies in 2000 to Kering last year, including Sanofi (2005), EDF (2007), LVMH and l’Oréal (2016) , Airbus (2018) and Hermès (2021). The performance achieved by the Limousin electrician is therefore far from anecdotal.
To get an idea, just look at the ranking of the world’s largest capitalizations to see that groups valued at more than 100 billion euros, or more than 113.4 billion dollars at the current price, are not legion. . At the close on Monday, they were precisely 129 – including 81 in the United States.
Since its absolute peak hit Thursday, January 6 in session (at 178.76 euros), the Schneider Electric share has however returned part of its accumulated gains in 2021 (+ 45.8%).
Around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the price rebounded after three consecutive heavy drops and traded at 163.8 euros (+ 1.9%), giving the industrialist specializing in energy management systems a valuation slightly higher than 93 billion euros.
This makes it the sixth capitalization of the CAC 40, behind the European n ° 1 LVMH (355 billion), l’Oréal (220), Hermès (144), TotalEnergies (125) and Sanofi (114), but just ahead of the flagships such as Airbus (92) or Kering (88).
