Having himself been a victim of harassment during his schooling, Gabriel Attal has made it his mission to fight against this scourge in schools since he was appointed Minister of National Education. Having already strengthened sanctions against students found guilty of bullying and violence against some of their classmates, the former government spokesperson announced a big news on Wednesday November 8, 2023, live in front of the cameras of BFMTV. From this Thursday, November 9, 2023, a self-assessment questionnaire will be put in place in all schools in the country, to help detect cases of school harassment. Concretely, all students from CE2 to Terminale will have to answer several questions, over a two-hour slot, between Thursday 9 and Wednesday 15 November 2023. This famous questionnaire will include 33 questions for school children from CE2 to CM2, compared to 44 for middle and high school students. This will be a multiple-choice questionnaire, since students will be able to choose between four boxes for each question.
School bullying: additional questions for secondary school students
The schoolchildren interviewed will have to indicate the regularity with which certain facts, of which they are witnesses or victims, occur. The answers will range from “never” to “very often”. The first questions will be grouped into two distinct categories. Students will thus be questioned several times on questions related to their relationship to the school they attend, but also concerning their daily life within it. Among the different questions that students will have to answer, they will be asked in particular if they have already “lied to stay at home for fear of finding one or more students at school”and if they have “fear” about going to school. For their part, secondary school students will have the opportunity to answer certain additional questions, which will notably concern a possible feeling of exclusion. Skipping classes, reduced motivation, or even the consequences of harassment on grades will also be addressed in this questionnaire. Minors will also be questioned about potential situations during which other students may have attempted to undress them, touch them, or even kiss them without their consent.
