Red Bull star Verstappen was unbeatable in Friday practice with a time of 1:45.507 minutes. The world championship leader was an incredible 0.862 seconds faster than Charles Leclerc, who is also the closest to him in the championship with a deficit of 80 points. The sporty thing was a bit overshadowed by big news on Friday. Audi announced this morning in Spa that it would be entering Formula 1 for the 2026 season, initially only as an engine manufacturer. However, the cooperation with an existing team will be announced by the end of the year. Everything points to the Sauber racing team, not least because it was also announced on Friday that the name sponsorship with Alfa Romeo will not be extended. The contract runs until the end of 2023.
It is also expected that another VW subsidiary, Porsche, will soon announce its entry and merge with Red Bull. The sports car manufacturer would find an intact team with the top star of the scene behind the wheel.
