The director speaks openly on “Hotel Matze” about the lack of support from friends after the allegations against him.
The German actor and director Til Schweiger comments on the difficult time in the “Hotel Matze” podcast after allegations against him became public last year. A report by “Spiegel” quoted anonymous sources at the time who accused Schweiger of arriving on the film set drunk and of being verbally aggressive and even physically abusive towards the team.
He now openly discusses his emotional world with podcaster Matze Hielscher. He is disappointed by the lack of support from former companions at the time of the allegations. He was particularly affected by the withdrawal of those people from whom he had not expected it.
And he always said: ‘If it weren’t for you, I’d still be playing greengrocer and stuff like that. I have so much to thank you for.” And then suddenly he was gone.
He spoke specifically about his “Tatort” co-star Fahri Yardim. He shone with silence during the difficult time for Schweiger. “What really moved me was that Fahri didn’t get in touch. And I took it with me everywhere, everywhere. He always said: ‘If it weren’t for you, I’d still be playing a greengrocer and stuff like that. I have so much to thank you for.” And then suddenly he was gone. He didn’t get in touch,” Schweiger says of Yardim.
Friendships at a distance
But even Oppenheimer star Matthias Schweighöfer, with whom he was closely linked both privately and professionally for many years, did not take Schweiger’s side. However, this is not to the director’s surprise. After joint successes such as “Keinohrhasen”, “Zweiohrchicken” and “Kokowääh 2”, contact broke off several years ago. Schweighöfer distanced himself from him – according to Schweiger, as soon as his career got rolling independently of the joint projects.
Whether the colleagues mentioned broke away from Til Schweiger because of his behavior or whether the contact got lost over time remains pure speculation at this point. An internal investigation by the Constantin film studio was able to refute some of the allegations against Schweiger.
