End of self-service electric scooters in Paris
From September 1, 2023, self-service electric scooters will officially no longer be welcome in Paris. The referendum organized by the town hall in April to determine the future of the machines was very clear: 89% of voters expressed themselves against. Electric scooter operators Lime, Dott and Tier therefore removed the machines from city streets over the summer. They will be transferred to other cities.
Instead of scooters, you can always take Vélib, rental bikes from the Parisian metropolis, or self-service electric bikes from Lime, Dott and Tier operators.
Only self-service scooters are prohibited: personal electric scooters remain authorized in the capital.
SNCF Advantage cards are cheaper (until September 5)
The SNCF Advantage cards allow you to benefit from reductions on certain train journeys. They are currently sold at half price: you can buy them for 24.50 euros instead of 49 euros. The promotion lasts until September 5, 2023.
If you take the train regularly, the advantage cards pay for themselves quickly – especially at half price. There are three types of Benefit cards: Youth, Adult, and Senior. They are all on sale at 24.50 euros.
Retirees
Pensions are also affected by changes. From September 1, several decrees come into effect. Several measures become applicable, as specified on the government website:
- Abolition of four special diets,
- Revaluation of minimum pensions for new retirees,
- Expansion of the progressive retirement scheme,
- New rights linked to the combination of employment and retirement,
- Creation of an investment fund for the prevention of professional wear and tear,
- Improvement of the prevention professional account,
- Creation of old-age insurance for carers,
- Creation of the orphan’s pension under the general scheme.

Revaluation of student grants
From the start of the school year, the amounts of all scholarship levels will be increased by €37. ” This corresponds to an inflation increase for the highest level, and up to 34% for the first level. “, Specifies the government website.
The Ministry of Education also indicates in its back-to-school guide:
- freezing the price of university catering meals for the start of the 2023 academic year (€1 for scholarship holders and €3.30 for other students),

- the revaluation of 30 euros per month of scholarships for students in overseas territories.
Salary increase for teachers

Renovations
