“Scream 7” is coming, directed by veteran horror filmmaker Christopher Landon. This reports “The Hollywood Reporter”.

After the successful reboot of the “Scream” film series with “Scream” (2022) and “Scream VI” (2023), it was basically only a matter of time before horror film fans could look forward to more. Now “Scream 7” is located according to the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” in development. However, “Scream 5 and 6” directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (45) and Tyler Gillett (41) will no longer direct the next part of the film series that began in 1996. Filmmaker Christopher Landon (48), who already has some successes in the horror genre, takes over for her.

Known for “Freaky” and “Happy Deathday”

In recent years, the 48-year-old American has directed the time travel horror films “Happy Deathday” (2017) and “Happy Deathday 2U” (2019) as well as the body swapping horror film “Freaky” (2020). Meanwhile, former “Scream” directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are working on a new horror film for the Universal film studio. However, they are involved as executive producers on “Scream 7” and are therefore not completely lost in the series.

The cast of “Scream 7”

Nothing is currently known about the cast of the now seventh “Scream” part. According to sources from The Hollywood Reporter, however, “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega (20) and other cast members such as Melissa Barrera (33) and Mason Gooding (26) are expected to return. In this regard, news can probably only be expected after the end of the actors’ strike in Hollywood. A screenwriter for “Scream 7” has not yet been determined.

The success of “Scream” and “Scream VI”

Simply titled “Scream,” the sixth entry in the long-running horror film franchise emerged as a smash hit at the global box office in 2022. A box office of around 139 million US dollars (equivalent to around 127 million euros) faces a budget of 24 million US dollars (22 million euros). “Scream VI”, which is said to have cost between 33 and 35 million US dollars (around 21 million euros), proved to be a hit from a financial point of view with a worldwide box office result of 169 million dollars (around 155 million euros).
