Scream 7: this big change that will impact the continuation of the horrific saga

The director duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, who relaunched the Scream saga in 2022, will not be directing the 7th opus. Who to replace them?

The director duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, initiators of the new era of the Scream saga, will not be returning for Scream 7.

The next installment in the franchise is set to be directed by Christopher Landon (the son of Michael Landon aka Charles Ingalls), who already produced the concept horror films Happy Birthdead and Freaky, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After having a student relive the day of her death on a loop and swapping the body of a high school girl with a 50-year-old serial killer, we wonder what the director has in store for Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding.

Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin will remain executive producers, however. In 2022, the duo relaunched the horrific saga initiated by Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson in 1996.

Scream 5 grossed $137 million at the worldwide box office while the 6th installment, which premiered in New York, grossed nearly $169 million worldwide.

Upon the release of Scream VI last March, the interpreter of Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) confided to us that he was ready for a new film: “I’m obviously up for a sequel if the fans want more and want to find out more about my character.”

No screenwriter is yet attached to the project and with the WGA and SGA strike currently paralyzing Hollywood, the feature film will likely not be released until late 2024 or even 2025.

Especially since once the actors’ strike is over, Jenna Ortega will have to join the filming of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2, which was underway in the UK when the strike was announced.
