Search in Obertauern – Missing skier “just” slept off intoxication

A search operation in Obertauern ended lightly. After an après-ski party in the ski resort, a 27-year-old Austrian suddenly disappeared. His friends alerted the emergency services and a large-scale search began. Meanwhile, the man was just sleeping off his intoxication in a strange hotel.

At around 9.45 p.m. on Friday, the worried men alerted the police and stated that their friend had left with them from the Lürzer-Alm to a log cabin, but had not arrived there. A large-scale search operation began immediately. Cell phone tracking was carried out without success, and all hotels and locations near the hut were searched. Suddenly back at around 2:20 a.m., the missing 27-year-old Austrian was found unharmed on the street. He stated that because he was drunk, he slept for a few hours in a room in a hotel he did not know. He didn’t notice anything about the search and his cell phone had broken down a few hours ago. The Obertauern mountain rescue team with 12 men and two dog handlers, the Obertauern volunteer fire department with 16 men, the Obertauern police with two men and others took part in the search that was initiated immediately even two drone pilots. An emergency doctor and the Red Cross with two men were also on site.
