Second League – GAK consolidates top of the table with a late win in Horn

The GAK consolidated its lead in the 2nd football league with its tenth win in its twelfth game of the season. At SV Horn on Friday, the Graz team struggled to a late 2-1 (1-1), which meant that coach Gernot Messner’s team temporarily extended their lead over pursuers Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz to nine points. The Vorarlbergers will be guests at fourth-placed SV Stripfing in the top game on Saturday (2.30 p.m.).

Marco Gantschnig scored the next win for GAK in the 82nd minute. In the first half, Thorsten Schriebl put the favorites in the lead (14th), Luca Wimhofer managed to equalize shortly before the half-time whistle (45th). With 31 points, the Styrians are now clearly ahead of Bregenz (22) and Floridsdorfer AC (20), who climbed up a few places with a 2-1 (0-0) win at FC Dornbirn, at least for one day. Kapfenberger SV had to settle for a 1:1 (1:0) at bottom team SKU Amstetten. The “Falcons” had victory in sight after Florian Haxha’s opening goal (31st). But Niels Hahn (66th) gave the Lower Austrians only their third point after twelve rounds; the gap to the non-relegation places is currently eight points. Amstetten had to survive the final phase outnumbered after a yellow-red card for Nicolas Andermatt (79th). DSV Leoben prevailed against Admira 3-2 (3-1) thanks to a brace from Deni Alar. SV Lafnitz celebrated a clear 5:2 (4:1) victory in the Styrian derby against the Sturm Amateure.
