Stan Wawrinka failed in the second round of the clay court tournament in Buenos Aires against Chilean Nicolas Jarry in three sets.
The winner of the game, which ended after two hours and 51 minutes 6:7 (3:7), 6:2, 7:6 (7:5) in favor of the South American Nicolas Jarry, could also have been Stan Wawrinka. The 38-year-old Romand had the opportunity in the third set to end the game with his own service when the score was 5:4.
Instead, he had to allow Jarry, who is number 21 in the world rankings 39 places ahead of him, to equalize without winning any points of his own. In the decisive tiebreak, Jarry, who missed a first match point in the 12th game, was always in the front.
Wawrinka’s dry spell continues
With the win, Jarry achieved late revenge for the defeat in the previous only duel against Wawrinka. Five years ago, the French-speaking Swiss prevailed in the second round of the tournament in Doha.
Wawrinka succeeded with that First round win against Pedro Cachin once again only 1 success in a tournament. The last time Wawrinka achieved two victories in a row was at last year’s US Open, where he failed in the third round against South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner.
