This is an issue that has been questioning all political parties since last June… how to respond to the riots that broke out in France after the death of young Nahel? This week, Emmanuel Macron said he wanted to “recivilize” working-class neighborhoods. For his part, Fabien Roussel, the communist leader, also surprises by declaring “it is imperative to tackle trafficking and strengthen border protection”, because “everywhere, the French must feel safe”.

It’s a story that never ends, Fabien Roussel and the rebellious oppose each other again. Since the riots that shook France last June, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party has clearly called for a questioning of the Republican police and methods of maintaining order. For his part, Fabien Roussel, he denotes on the left by supporting the police. The national secretary of the French Communist Party affirms that it is “urgent to find security forces, respected and appreciated”.

“He tries to exist”

Once again, Fabien Roussel takes advantage of a social subject to stand out from the rest of the Nupes. Indeed, while La France insoumise is organizing a march against police repression, Fabien Roussel is asking for more police in working-class neighborhoods. Something to annoy his rebellious colleague Matthias Tavel. “Fabien Roussel, he tries to exist. I think that’s all the trouble he gives himself. And to exist, he tries to distinguish himself. I think he would do better to distinguish himself through social combativeness because that, for example, on September 23, in the march for social justice, there will be the CGT, there will be the FSU, there will be Solidaires, but there will not be the Communist Party. unbelievable”, reproaches the deputy.

Among rebellious activists, Fabien Roussel’s words are less and less accepted. Patrick, retired, disapproves of his political strategy. “He wants to flirt, he thinks of picking up the National Rally voters on the margins because that’s what they are playing their electoral program on,” he analyzes. And Fabien Roussel continues to free himself from Nupes: this Sunday, he will launch his independent list for the European elections, led by Léon Deffontaines.
