Jane Fonda confided in an excruciating memory. The time a famous French director made a shocking request.
This is shocking testimony. As the 76th Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, famous actress Jane Fonda drops a bombshell. Invited on the set of the show Watch What Happens Live, the double Oscar-winning star reveals to have been the victim of very shocking behavior on the part of a famous French director, René Clément, who took her on the set of the film Felines in 1964. “Well, [René Clément] wanted to sleep with me because the character I was playing had to have an orgasm in the movie and he needed to see what I was like [les miens]”she says.
Jane Fonda then indicates that the filmmaker would have asked her to be able “see what her orgasms would be like”. “He said it in French and I pretended not to understand”, explained Jane Fonda who was then only 27 years old, against 51 for the director, at the time of the facts. The actress, in her childhood, was the victim of rape and sexual assault when she was a child. “I was also fired because I refused to sleep with my boss. I always thought it was my fault, that I didn’t do or say the right thing”, she said.
Her commitment to women
This is also why she decided to get involved and defend women’s rights. “I know young girls who have been raped and who didn’t even know what rape was. They say to themselves, ‘It must be because I said ‘no’ in the wrong way”. one of the great things the women’s movement has done is make us realize that rape and abuse is not our fault. We’ve been raped and it’s not fair. I am almost 80 years old. To live long, you have to take care of yourself. I sleep more than eight hours a day, I meditate twice for half an hour every day, I eat a balanced diet, I exercise. I always say to activists: The road is long. You have to be strong to do it”
