SEGA licenses in Europe, a big studio becomes independent

Like almost all game development and publishing manufacturers and studios, SEGA dismissed. The Japanese firm has already let go of more than 60 employees in North America at the very beginning of the year, it is now the Old Continent that is affectedincluding a major English studio.

SEGA lays off around 240 people in Europe, mainly at Creative Assemblythe developer of Total War and of HYENASA looter shooter multiplayer canceled. The studio had already lost staff on this occasion. Moreover, SEGA separates from Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes), which now becomes independent. The developers will still continue support for Company of Heroes 3A RTS launched a year ago and available on Amazon, Cdiscount, there Fnac Or Gamesplanet.

SEGA justifies these dismissals by a “rapid evolution” of the market and an “economic slowdown”in an email confirmed by Eurogamer. Jurgen Post, director of SEGA Europe, apologized to employees who learned the news via this morning’s public announcements, explaining that “because of the nature of the announcement and legal obligations in Japan”, the information had to remain secret. Not sure that the people concerned appreciate the approach, despite the apologies.
