Seiren BT & Audio Mixer: a Razer microphone and audio interface to appeal to creators

3

Razer is never the last to venture into new types of products and proves it once again by launching two references for creators: the Seiren BT wireless lavalier microphone and the Audio Mixer sound card.

Faced with the lucrative market represented by streaming, and more broadly the creation of content, it is not surprising to see a sprawling brand like Razer multiply the products. It is in this perspective of capturing the market that the brand with the three snakes presents audio equipment as specific as it is new to it: the Seiren BT and the Audio Mixer.

Although Razer already has a line of Seiren microphones, this is the very first microphone that is both wireless and in lavalier (or “lavalier”) format from the Singaporean manufacturer. A concept that is also reminiscent of Sennheiser’s Memory Mic. The Seiren BT comes in the form of a small “Stabilo” with clamp housing a 6 mm cartridge and accompanied by two windshields (supplied) to protect it from plosives and wind. The communication happens only in wireless mode via Bluetooth, Razer promising an astonishingly low latency of 20 ms and an autonomy of 6 to 4 hours in recording.

The Seiren BT comes with a mobile app not only to know the battery level, but also to activate a noise reduction mode adjustable on two levels. Another interesting feature: the microphone has a mini-jack output to control the stream recorded on headphones (monitoring), or even simply listen to music. Regarding the technical specifics of the product, Razer only provides information on the directivity of the microphone, here omnidirectional. Let’s hope that the noise reduction algorithm will be effective…

Also new to Razer is the Audio Mixer, which is launching a true digital audio interface for the first time. The aptly named Audio Mixer comes as a small USB-C sound card (self-powered) bringing together specific controls and inputs/outputs to make life easier for budding streamers. As for the inputs, the Audio Mixer is not the most stingy: there are two microphone inputs, one balanced XLR with +48V phantom power at the rear, and a second mini-jack at the front, a mini-jack line input and an optical digital input. The outputs are on the other hand much rarer with only a stereo mini-jack line output at the back and a headphone output at the front.

Several commands are accessible directly via the interface, including four faders to quickly and efficiently control the levels of the various assigned sources. Razer says its sound card is compatible with the Razer Synapse app, providing access to a variety of audio stream management and customization tools, including microphone input processing tools (some quite useful, some quite folk to totally transform the voice). Some curious options are also made available to change the key and tempo of an audio source or automatically censor any explicit audio content.

The Audio Mixer and the Seiren BT, as well as a pair of Key Light Chroma led panels announced at the same time, are already available at the respective prices of 260 € and 110 €.
