New role for US star Selena Gomez (28): The "Kill Em With Kindness" singer will soon be in front of the camera for the comedy series "Only Murders in the Building" alongside Steve Martin (74, "Cheaper by the dozen"). According to "Deadline" she also acts as executive producer.
Three strangers in the middle of a crime
The project, in which Martin Short (70, "Die Reise ins Ich") also plays a leading role, is being produced for the US video-on-demand provider Hulu. The idea for the plot comes from Steve Martin himself. "Only Murders in the Building" tells the story of three strangers (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) who share a passion for crime and suddenly find themselves in the middle of it. Executive producer Gomez shares with Martin, Short, John Hoffman and "This Is Us" creators Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.
For all-rounder Gomez, the comedy series means a return to its TV roots. In 2008, the now 28-year-old celebrated her breakthrough as the star of the Disney Channel series "The Wizards of Waverly Place". Later she was also successful as a singer ("Rare") and film actress – for example in "The Fundamentals of Caring" alongside Paul Rudd (51) and in "The Big Short" alongside Christian Bale (46) and Brad Pitt (56) .
