Semiconductors: TSMC raises $3.5 billion for its new US factory


BRIEF // To create a new production site in Arizona, the Taiwanese foundry TSMC plans to invest 12 billion dollars in total between 2021 and 2029. This new factory should open its doors in 2024.

TSMC continues its efforts to build a new large-scale factory in the United States. In this sense, the first subcontractor in the manufacture of electronic chips has raised 3.5 billion dollars in bonds to finance the creation of this factory which will be located in Arizona, according to a financial document consulted by Reuters.

For this new production site to see the light of day, the Taiwanese founder plans to invest a total of 12 billion dollars between 2021 and 2029. This factory, which must be able to accommodate up to 1,600 employees, should open its doors in 2024.

TSMC plans to invest 36 billion euros for the year 2022 alone, after having put more than 25 billion dollars on the table last year. In total, the Taiwanese manufacturer, which counts Apple and Qualcomm among its customers, wants to invest 100 billion dollars over three years in its production units.
