Cryptocurrency Dogecoin (DOGE) successfully sent its first transaction over the air using the Radio Doge protocol. The Libdogecoin library as well as the satellites star link were used to carry out the operation.
According to Michi Lumin, developer of Dogecoin, this type of process will in the future allow access to people beyond the reach of the Internet, spread across the four corners of the world.
A historic success?
For the first time, on April 22, 2022, a dogecoin (DOGE) transaction was sent via radio transmission with the help of the global Starlink satellite network. The currency’s developer, Michi Lumin, revealed the news in a tweet.
” I just sent 4.2069 dogecoins 160km away (with @tjstebbing and @KBluezr listening on a receiver 810km away), using only libdogecoin, radio and relayed last to mainnet via Starlink said Lumin.
In fact, this dogecoin transaction leveraged HF/LoRaWAN technology (radio technology) and the Starlink satellite network. An internet connection is therefore always required to carry out part of the communication.
The aim of the approach is to provide cheap access to remote areas by taking advantage of low-cost radio technology. It would then be possible to carry out operations without access to the Internet thanks to Dogecoin which would stimulate the growth and adoption of cryptocurrencies.
For DOGE supporters, it is a historic success that demonstrates the full potential of the area. Ultimately, the Libdogecoin project plans to become more democratic by setting up a “ standard documentation, proof of community participation and Tier 2 scaling for outlets and radio nodes “, according to CryptoSlate.
