Seniors particularly affected by inflation

As the Ukrainian conflict enters its second year, the French are measuring its repercussions in their daily lives a little more every day. Result of a Harris Interactive and Toluna survey for RTL: in 2023, purchasing power is now the major concern for 72% of them.

Faced with the increase in the cost of living, however, the French are not all affected in the same way. In recent months, we have seen an increase in the gaps between the different categories of households. Based on INSEE data on domestic expenditure, Figure Data analyzed to what extent the composition of the budget affects inflation from one household to another.

Seniors hard hit

Over one year, the cost of living for the over 75s increased by 6.21% and by 5.77% for the 65 to 74 age group. By way of comparison, this increase is only 4.75% among those under 35 years old. A significant gap over a single year.
